Solution:
The Dauphin County Library System, and their architect, Hammel Associates, turned to Enginuity. Working closely with Hammel, Enginuity designed a system that met the Library’s imminent need to replace their existing system while also improving noise, dehumidification and operational control. The resulting 4-pipe fan coil unit system does not use the existing ceiling, so the newly-installed system will be unaffected by the ceiling restoration project.
Project highlights:
- Replacement of existing single zone steam heat radiator system with a multiple zone hot water system utilizing three air handling units for administrative space and fan coil units for the reading room. Multiple zone controls allow for better occupant comfort and lower operating costs.
- Replacement of existing split system cooling system with new chiller.
- A new Siemens’s direct digital control system to control/monitor the entire system
Since the branch needed to remain open, work had to be scheduled around both the seasons and the library’s schedule. Enginuity completed the work with no lost utility days, while maintaining standard branch operations. The Dauphin County Library System was so pleased with Enginuity’s work that they have since been awarded a service contract for all eight branch locations in the system.
"We knew we had to find a firm with the intellectual horsepower to solve our problem... Enginuity came through with flying colors."
Rich Bowra, Executive Director
"It's not just that we stayed open during the work, but that the Enginuity crew was extremely responsive to both the needs and schedule of our staff. Enginuity's crew was a credit to their trade and to Enginuity... you couldn't ask for two better tradesmen. Our staff threw a party for Enginuity when the project was completed."
